A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of William Copeland in Hamilton.

William Lewis was ordered to serve 18-years behind bars at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, 5 November, 2025 after he plead guilty to stabbing the 36-year-old to death in October last year.

The 56-year-old was also convicted of attempting to murder another man during the same incident in the Burnbank Centre area of the town.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “This was a shocking and violent attack which resulted in the death of a young man and another man needing hospital treatment.

“Nothing will bring William Copeland back, but I hope seeing Lewis held to account gives his family some level of comfort. Our thoughts remain with them.

“Such despicable violence is not tolerated in our communities, and our officers will continue to work tirelessly alongside our partners to bring perpetrators to justice.”
