Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust (GVVT) has announced veteran DJ, Ken Bruce MBE, is to become its first patron.

Our very own Greatest Hits Radio host will take up the role on September 1, with the organisation which restores and preserves vintage vehicles.

As a lifelong transport enthusiast, Ken says he is “delighted” to be joining GVVT as patron, for a cause which is close to his heart.

He said: “Buses have been part of my life since I was taken to my granny’s in Riddrie in the 50s, right through to owning several London buses in the 2000s.

“It’s an excellent organisation which does so much to preserve the buses that are part of our heritage and does great work in the community.

“I look forward to helping continue their wonderful efforts at Bridgeton.”

'A Glasgow boy'

GVVT chairman, Steven Booth, says Bruce is a “great match” for the organisation and will be an excellent ambassador for it.

He said: “He is a Glasgow boy with a genuine interest in buses, especially those which operated in and around his native city.

“As a PCV license holder, he has owned and operated buses.

“He is also a skilled and renowned broadcaster and communicator, all of which amounts to a unique blend of ability and experience to bring to the role.”

With our mid-morning show with Ken Bruce on Greatest Hits Radio reaching weekly audiences of more than four million people, Steven hopes the partnership will help broaden the appeal of GVVT to the public.
