Last updated 29th Aug 2023
West Dunbartonshire Council is calling for residents to give their views on the redevelopment of the Artizan Centre in Dumbarton.
It’s part of the council's plans to breathe new life into the centre and encourage investment on the high street.
The council was awarded £19.9m from Levelling Up Funding to use on three projects which will enhance the town centre.
This includes improving travel connections within Dumbarton and the redevelopment of Glencairn House.
Preliminary work has started at the shopping centre with the council now looking to develop designs and obtain planning permission.
Breathe new life into the city centre
Views are being sought from the community to help the council decide how to use the site.
An online consultation will run for seven weeks, alongside two in-person events that will allow business owners, residents and other interested parties to share their ideas.
Councillor David McBride, Covener for Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development says the local view is paramount to the redevelopment.
He said: “We want to ensure that residents’ opinions are gathered at an early stage of the project, and I would encourage all members of the community to participate in this consultation and share their feedback on how they believe this site would be best used.
“As always, the information gathered through our consultations will inform the eventual design, so it is an extremely important part of the process.”

You can also submit your feedback during one of the two meetings being held in the Artizan Unit on 48 High Street.
They will take place between 3pm and 7pm on Thursday the 24th of August and Thursday the 28th of September.
Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, Vice Convener for Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development is confident that the finished project will generate further investment in Dumbarton.
He said: “We are getting ever closer to delivering our ambitious Levelling Up Fund projects, and I have no doubt that when the redevelopment of the Artizan Centre is complete, it will boost footfall in the town centre.
“We are committed to making these enhancements work for our residents and businesses and will work with them closely as this progresses.”
