Roads in Glasgow will begin being closed from this afternoon ahead of the Great Scottish Run taking place in the city on Sunday.

More than 30,000 people have signed up for Scotland’s biggest running event which includes Half Marathon and 10K race as well as junior and mini events.

Each year the event raises hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities and good causes.

Both the main races on Sunday begin in George Square with the finish line at Glasgow Green, and with the route taking runners across the Kingston Bridge.

The 10k route crosses the River Clyde four times, using the Clyde Arc, better known to Glaswegians as the ‘Squinty Bridge’.

Competitors taking on the Half Marathon challenge follow a course which takes them south for a circuit of Pollok Park

On Sunday the 10k elite wheelchair race stats 8.25 and the fastest 10k runners will be waved off at 8.30

Half marathon runners will start in waves between 10.00 and 12.00
