A 45-year-old man has been jailed for seven years for a series of sexual and violent offences against three women in Renfrewshire.

Clark Thomson was sentenced at the High Court in Paisley after being convicted of six charges including rape, assault to injury and danger of life.

The offences were committed against three women over an 18-year period, from January 2002 to November 2020.

Detective Constable Stewart Morrison of Renfrewshire & Inverclyde Public Protection Unit said: “Clark Thomson is an extremely dangerous individual who carried out a campaign of terror against his victims, subjecting them to horrific sexual abuse and violence.

“As a result of their incredible bravery, today he was brought to account for his despicable behaviour, and I hope that this will provide them with some form of closure and enable them to move forward with their lives.”

Detective Inspector Colin MacRitchie added: “Perpetrators may think their victims will be too frightened to come forward, but it only takes one to speak up, before we begin to unravel the true extent of their crimes.

“Police Scotland takes all reports of sexual and physical violence seriously and we will continue to investigate and work closely with our partners to support victims involved.”
