A man is in a "critical condition" in hospital after his luxury car lost control and smashed into a concrete barrier on the East Kilbride expressway.

Around 10.40pm on Saturday, 17 February, the Bentley Continental GT was travelling eastbound on the A725 when it hit the barrier.

Police say the car and the barrier suffered significant damage.

Emergency services attended and the 30-year-old male driver of the car was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

The 26-year-old female passenger was also taken to hospital and released following treatment.

The road was closed to allow collision investigation work to be carried out.

Sergeant Elaine Scott said: “I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision, who has yet to speak to us, to please get in touch. We are piecing together the circumstances of how the crash occurred and information is vital in assisting us to do that. I would also ask anyone with dash cam equipment to check their footage.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3844 of 17 February 2024.
