With Halloween just around the corner, one house in Drumchapel is pulling out all the stops.

Sandra Myles has been putting together special decorations for different holidays for years, and this week she’s expecting more than a thousand visitors to see the spooky display.

Ghosts, mummies, pumpkins and a pair of giant inflatable eyeballs are just some of the things Sandra has placed all over her garden, while a brightly lit ‘trick-or-treat- archway leads visitors towards the house.

Sandra took over the tradition from her parents, and she told Clyde 1 News it’s important to her to give back to the locals who’ve given her family so much over the years: “My mum and dad started this probably forty-odd years ago, and it’s just grown and grown year on year.

“The reason that I’ve picked it up now that my parents aren’t able to do it is that sixty-two years ago my mum had quite a serious head injury that paralysed her from the neck down, and if it wasn’t for the community of Drumchapel she quite frankly wouldn’t be alive.

“They came together in their thousands and donated blood for transfusions, money to help my grandparents, who didn’t have much money at the time and didn’t drive, get to the hospital to support her.

“So this is just my small contribution to thank the community for what they did for my mum.”

While Sandra is putting together hundreds of goody-bags for local children, she says her Halloween display is going down well with the whole community: “There’s grown men passing me in the street telling me that they’ve got such a fright!

“There’s a lot of interactive props, and we’ve invested heavily in two particular props which will be out on the night, and I think they’ll go down a treat.”
