A MAN whose dog bit a police officer on the testicles was fined £270 today.

Ridwan Islam's three-year-old Caucasian Shepherd chewed on PC Andy Brand's groin on June 11 2022.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the 33-year-old was talking with a man in the city centre about the dog.

PC Brand then approached Islam to speak with him.

In an agreed written narration handed to a sheriff, the Crown states: "Without prompt or warning, the dog who Islam was in control of and holding on to its lead at the time lashed out.

"The dog lunged at PC Brand biting him on the groin causing two cuts."

Islam was cautioned and charged by the officers before replying: "I'm sorry."

The dog was seized and put into kennels while PC Brand was taken to hospital.

He was given a tetanus injection and anti-biotics.

Islam pled guilty to being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control.

His lawyer Haroun Malik asked the court not to destroy the dog which would be housed with Islam's brother.

He added: "Mr Islam is regretful and instructed me to phone the officer and apologise.

"He realises this is a serious matter as the dog wasn't under his control which bit a police officer on the testicles.

"This is an isolated incident and the dog has showed no aggression to members of the public.

"He is willing to take responsibility and what ever punishment the court decides."

Sheriff Bernard Ablett made an order for the dog to receive treatment at a vet for her groin and joint issues.

The dog will also be muzzled and kept on a lead with a length of six feet.

Sheriff Ablett stated to Islam: "The dog will not be destroyed, do you understand?"

Islam replied: "Thank god, thank you."
