Clydebank tower block evacuated and train lines closed

A tower block in Clydebank has been evacuated and Dalmuir train station closed amid an ongoing incident.

A huge response with the the bomb squad, police, ambulance was sparked this afternoon at Overtoun Court.

People living in the block were told to leave as quickly as possible.

A spoksperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers searching a property in Overtoun Court in Clydebank, as part of an ongoing investigation, have discovered a suspect item.

"EOD has been informed and several surrounding properties are being evacuated as a precaution.

"Members of the public are asked to avoid the area."

A neighbouring block remains within a police cordon with no-one allowed to leave.

Officers made the discovery as they carried out a separate investigation into the death of a man in the area over a week ago. This afternoon's incident is not linked to the death.

Dalmuir Train station remain closed this evening although services are expected to resume at some point tonight.
