A Dunoon man is stepping up his calls to restore the town's pier with a petition to save it.

The Victorian landmark is currently on the Buildings at Risk register and there are fears it could be partially demolished.

Ali McLay told Greatest Hits Radio: "It's sad to see such an iconic structure in the town going to waste like this.

"I've also had lots of conversations with people in the community about it and everyone tends to agree we could lose it altogether if something is not done."

The petition now has over 1,600 signatures and Ali claims he is overwhelmed by the response.

He added: "I've had support on an international level with people backing the petition from as far as Canada and Australia.

"My discussions with the local authority have been positive and they have told me they support working with a community body to find a solution."

We've approached Argyll & Bute Council for a response.
