There is a warning people living on Newton Farm housing estate in Cambuslang are struggling to work from home because they keep being left in the dark.

Houses suffered another power cut yesterday which is understood to have been caused by engineering works.

Scottish Labour MP Michael Shanks told Greatest Hits Radio: "This is the type of thing that does not normally happen to households at all.

"There needs to be a proper investigation into whether or not there is a problem with this particular area.

"I've written to Ofgem and I am going to be raising this in Parliament because there needs to be a resolution as soon as possible."

The same estate has had a number of outages this year including power cuts in October lasting for 12 hours.

SNP councillor for Cambuslang East Katy Loudon told Greatest Hits Radio: "I am really asking SP Energy Networks to look beyond their usual compensation agreements.

"I am going to be calling for a full investigation for what went wrong as this cannot happen again."

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks and GTC Energy said: "We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused by interruptions to their power supply this morning, which was caused by a cable fault on SP Energy Networks’ system therefore affecting people on our downstream network.

"Many customer’s supplies were restored within 8 minutes with the majority of the remainder being back on within 1 hour 20 minutes, although we appreciate how frustrating this is for customers following outages on the network in October.

"Actions developed following previous faults are in progress by SP Energy Networks, including a full review of the electricity circuit to identify any locations where targeted investment may minimise the likelihood of further issues.

"Additional switchgear and automation has been installed to allow remote operation of the network, which will help aid the restoration process."

SP Energy Networks has been approached for comment.
