Police name Blantyre man who died after crash days before Christmas

An 84-year-old pedestrian who died in a crash Blantyre in the week leading up to Christmas has been named as Robert Shira-Gibb from the town.

The incident happened around 5.55pm on Tuesday, 19 December, 2023, on Glasgow Road and involved a white Isuzu Grafter Flatbed.

Emergency services attended and Mr Shira-Gibb was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died on Wednesday, 20 December, 2023.

Driver arrested

A 53-year-old man, the driver of the Isuzu, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Chris McColm said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Shira-Gibb’s family at this time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who has information that could assist and who has not yet spoken to officers is asked to get in touch.”
