A man from Biggar who lost his son to spiking is welcoming plans to make it a standalone offence in England and Wales.

Colin Mackie lost 18-year-old Greg back in 2017 and has been campaigning ever since.

He told Greatest Hits Radio: "For far too long, we have been on the defensive and now we are on the attack.

"I've spent years telling people how to defend themselves and now finally people will be prosecuted for this.

"We are doing this for other victims and their families."

It IS illegal to spike someone in Scotland, but it falls under overarching 'drugging' laws.

Colin added: "I am disappointed this change is not happening up here, but I am hoping the lead taken by Westminster will encourage Holyrood to follow suit.

"The victims should be confident in speaking up to say they've been spiked."
