Abandoned rabbits rescued from South Lanarkshire roadside by lorry drivers
The Scottish SPCA says the two giant rabbits are lucky to be alive
Two abandoned giant rabbits have been rescued from the side of a busy road in South Lanarkshire.
The black and white giant continentals had been dumped at the side of the A73 on Thursday 7 March.
The pair were rescued by two lorry drivers who stopped to help.
The Scottish SPCA say the animals are lucky to have survived and are appealing for information.
Inspector Jennifer Surgeon said: “A pair of rabbits were found by a truck driver running loose near the busy road. He pulled over and, with the help of another driver, they managed to secure the rabbits.
“A carrier was on the other side of the fence but had been left open so they had both managed to escape.
“Both rabbits had no obvious signs of injury and were in good condition. They are now in our care at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.
“This is not the correct way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them. This was a dangerous situation for these rabbits and the outcome could have been very different.
