Work starts on major new community space in Jaywick
The £4.4m project includes spaces for businesses, a covered market and a community cafe
Work's started on a £4.4m project creating space for new businesses and a community market in Jaywick.
The site, off Lotus Way, will also include a café, community garden and public toilets.
It's part of a plan to boost employment opportunities in the area and provide new facilities for local people.
Planning permission was granted last July, with the project supporting over 40 full time jobs.
Construction work is set to take around 40 weeks, with the site due to open in spring 2023.
Lesley Wagland OBE, from Essex County Council, said:
“Any project of this scale takes a lot of planning, so to be at the point of spades in the ground on this scheme – which will deliver support for local businesses and local jobs for residents is something to be celebrated.”
Adam Bryan, Chief Executive Officer South East Local Enterprise Partnership, which helped to fund the project, said:
“This major project is an ideal example of the Getting Building Fund, creating a space that will provide employment and opportunities for Tendring residents, as well as attracting people to Jaywick Sands and supporting its revival.”
