A woman accused of the murder of her five-year-old son has been remanded into custody by a crown court judge.

Claire Button, who is charged with the murder of Lincoln Button, appeared by video-link from HMP Peterborough during Tuesday's hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court.

The 35-year-old, of Windstar Drive in South Ockendon, Essex, spoke only to confirm her name.

She was not asked to enter a plea and no application for bail was made.

The defendant, who has shoulder-length brown hair, wore glasses and a grey jumper and remained seated as she listened to proceedings.

According to Essex Police, officers worked alongside paramedics to try to save Lincoln after being called to an address in Windstar Drive on December 15.

Police had initially responded to reports of serious concerns for the welfare of a child and a woman, the force added.

A woman was taken to hospital for treatment and her condition improved, according to police.

Judge Christopher Morgan remanded Button into custody until a plea hearing at Basildon Crown Court on January 20.
