A memorial service will be held on Clacton seafront to commemorate the 76th anniversary of VJ Day.

The Service of Remembrance will take place in the Memorial Gardens on Marine Parade West at 11am today (16 August), and will be hosted by the Royal British Legion, supported by Tendring District Council (TDC).

Various groups and organisations will lay wreaths on the War Memorial to remember those who lost their lives during the war in the Pacific.

Reverend David Lower will conduct the service at the War Memorial, and a reading of Psalm 46, verses 1-7 will be done by Peter Harris, the Vice-Chairman Cllr of TDC.

The event is open to the public.

Although social distancing will not be enforced, those attending are being asked to show respect by staying socially distanced.

Chris Amos, TDC’s Armed Forced Champion, said:

"This service of commemoration allows us to remember those who lose their lives during the conflict in the Far East, whether they be UK, Commonwealth or Allied soldiers, as well as those they fought against."
