The week of action, which took place between 12th and 16th October, saw police visit 25 scrap metal dealers across the county, 10 vehicle dismantlers, and conduct roadside checks.

They also worked alongside Border Force to check more than 200 vehicles at Harwich Port.

Sergeant Paul Downes said: "The week of action is part of our continued effort to raise awareness within our communities and to help target criminal activity around this crime type nationally.

"Metal theft can affect a variety of sectors including heritage sites, telecommunications, transport and power. It disrupts not just the business but also those they service within our communities."

The week of action also included working in partnership with local authorities across Essex to target waste carrier licenses and provided members of the public with crime prevention advice.

Essex Police is asking everyone to remain vigilant to metal theft and report any issues to 101 or their website.
