Detectives have launched a murder investigation, after the death of a woman near Basildon this morning (4th November).

Police were called to concerns for the welfare of a woman in Dewsgreen, Vange, soon after 6.40am.

Officers found a woman, in her 60s, had died.

An investigation into her death has been launched and a 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is currently in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss, who is leading the investigation, said: "This sad news will naturally cause concern within the Vange community but although our investigations are in a very early phase, the information we have suggests there is no wider threat to the public.

"There will continue to be a large police presence in the area throughout today and the road will remain closed as my team carry out their investigations to ascertain the circumstances around the woman’s death."

In a statement, Essex Police added: 'Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the Dewsgreen or Vange Hill Drive area overnight should call 101 and cite incident 121 of November 4.
