Bomb squad called after grenade found in Colchester pond

An army bomb disposal team has been called to Colchester after an unexploded grenade was found in a pond.

Essex Police tweeted to say the device was pulled out of Bourne Pond near Bourne Road on Sunday.

A bomb disposal team was called to carry out a controlled explosion late last night.

Police went on to apologise to nearby residents for the disruption on a Sunday night but said it was necessary to make ensure people's safety.

Essex Police say it was dealt with as planned.
