Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a spate of burglaries in Pitsea and Basildon.

They were detained in Witham after a group of people were seen entering a home in Lichfield on December 12 armed with knives.

The pair, aged 18 and a 16, have also been linked to nine burglaries in the Basildon area during which vehicles were also taken.

Both have been questioned on suspicion of aggravated burglary and have been released on bail.

Superintendent Gary Biddle, of Essex Police, said: “Operational support group officers are out across Essex every day and every night in order to identify those who we believe are causing the highest harm in our communities.

“In this instance, they were able to act quickly to identify two people and make key arrests in difficult circumstances in order to keep our streets safe.”
