Two men charged with GBH after Canewdon assault

Two men have been charged in connection with a serious assault in Canewdon.

Wayne Kavanagh, 31, of West Road, Shoeburyness and Thomas Sitek, 27, of Elmsleigh Drive, Leigh-on-Sea, were remanded in custody to appear at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court today, (Tuesday 24 January).

Wayne Kavanagh has been charged with GBH, two counts of false imprisonment and assault by beating;

Thomas Sitek has been charged with GBH and two counts of false imprisonment.

Police were called just before 8.55am on Sunday 22 January to reports of an injured man at a property in Paddocks Close, Canewdon.

Once at the house they found a man, in his 20s, had sustained a single stab wound and facial injuries.

He was taken to hospital. His injuries are not considered to be life threatening but may be life changing.

Police are continuing to investigate the case and Detective Inspector Nick Brunton, leading the investigation, said: “We understand that this will cause concern in the community, but we’d like to reassure our residents that there is no wider risk.

“Officers are carrying out high visibility reassurance patrols and remain in the area to answer anyone’s concerns.

"we would ask if you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us".
