Two boys arrested after man assaulted in Witham car park

Two teenage boys have been arrested after a man was assaulted in a car park in Witham.

Essex police were called out to a car park off Mayland Road, Witham, on Tuesday 15 October after reports that a group of children were seen throwing firecrackers in the area.

When a man challenged the group, he was assaulted.

Two 14-year-old boys were arrested on Thursday (17 October) on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.

They have been questioned and released on bail with strict conditions attached while the investigation continues.

Inspector Philip Jackson, of Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team, said:

“I’m aware details and speculation about this worrying incident have been widely shared on social media.

“I understand the public concern, and I want to reassure the community that I have dedicated officers in my team to investigating this incident to the fullest extent.

“But I would urge anyone who may have further information to reach out to us, we’d really like to hear from you.”
