Police have arrested 11 more people in connection with environmental protests in South Essex.

They were taken into custody at a service station at Thurrock Motorway Services in Grays.

It's alleged they were attempting to damage the petrol pumps. Similar action has been taken at several other fuel stations along the M25.

It comes after 28 arrests were made yesterday at three locations in Thurrock.

Just Stop Oil, a campaign group calling for the government to halt investment in fossil fuels, says its behind many of the demonstrations.

Yesterday, they revealed four tunnels which had been dug under roads near the Navigator Terminal in Essex and Kingsbury oil terminal in Warwickshire.

Sam, who is one of those involved in the protests near the Navigator and Kingsbury oil terminals, said:

“We face very dire consequences if we don’t stop new oil and gas drilling. We’ve already seen 40C heat in the UK for the first time in recorded history and that put immense pressure on the emergency services.

"It’s clear that they are under-resourced and now they are cutting corners.

“This is on the government. They could end this disruption today and start to address the cost of living and the climate crisis by stopping new oil and gas.”

Activists also blocked access to roads and oil terminals earlier this year.
