Three arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with deaths of married couple in West Mersea
64-year-old Carol Baxter and 61-year-old Stephen Baxter were named at the opening of an inquest into their deaths yesterday.
Two men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder, after a married couple were found dead at a property in West Mersea on Sunday 9th April.
Essex Police say further investigation and analysis of toxicology reports led to the arrests, in connection with the deaths of 64-year-old Carol Baxter and 61-year-old Stephen Baxter, who were found by a family member at a property in Victory Road in April.
The couple were named yesterday when the inquest into their deaths opened at Essex Coroner's Court.
A statement from Essex Police said: “Three people have been arrested as part of our investigation into the deaths of two people in West Mersea.
“We were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to concerns for the welfare of two people at a home in Victory Road on Sunday 9 April, at about 1.30pm.
“Officers arrived and, sadly, found a married couple – a man aged 61 and a woman aged 64 – had died.
“At that stage, their deaths were being treated as unexpected and not suspicious and we were working to establish the circumstances around their deaths.
“As a result of an extensive investigation and toxicology analysis, two men and a woman were arrested in order to gain comprehensive accounts from them.
“We continue to remain open-minded as to how the couple died.
“They remain in custody for questioning as other enquires are conducted.”
