Three people have been arrested after an altercation at a restaurant in Hatfield Peverel.

Essex Police were called out to reports of a disturbance at the William B, in The Street, on Sunday afternoon (11 May).

Officers attended, alongside ambulance service colleagues, and found a man had suffered a head injury.

He was initially taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

Three men, two aged in their 50s and one in his 30s, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray.

Investigation ongoing

Temporary Detective Inspector Wendy Byrne said: “I understand there is public concern over this incident and the heavy policing presence in response.

“I would reassure people in Hatfield Peverel that we’ve progressed our investigation into this matter quickly and established there is no continuing or ongoing threat to the public.

“This matter, although always to be treated seriously, was in effect an altercation inside the premises which has thankfully not resulted in lasting injuries to anyone.

“We’ve made several arrests and our work is ongoing to establish the circumstances around what took place.”
