The first look at Harlow's new Arts and Cultural Quarter
It's set for a multi-million-pound regeneration
Illustrations have been shared of what the Harlow Arts and Cultural Quarter could look like, when it goes through a multi million pound regeneration. Planners aim to make it a key part of the town's centre, serving as a western gateway in the ongoing regeneration efforts.
The project aims to complement the existing offerings of Harlow Playhouse while introducing new and improved spaces.
Recently submitted plans outline the redevelopment of the area west of Harlow Playhouse, including Occasio House, to accommodate a new live performance and music venue, upgrades to the Playhouse, and a public square for events, outdoor performances, cinema, and outdoor dining.
Funded by a £20 million government grant, the scheme includes a new building to provide commercial and community spaces at ground floor level, with 47 1 and 2-bedroom flats above, replacing the demolished Occasio House.
The objective is to establish the area as a destination for art and cultural events, with Harlow Playhouse and St Paul's Church at the center of the new quarter.
Harlow Playhouse will be extended with a new arts-led Pavilion, featuring performance space for live entertainment, a music school, recording studio, café, restaurant, and bar. The plans also include new studios for arts and entertainment, along with flexible spaces for events, smaller performances, and community uses.
