A teenager has been charged in connection with two burglaries in Witham yesterday (Thursday 6 October).
Properties in Laburnum Way and Rowan Road were broken into between 2.30am and 2.45am.
A car was taken from each address.
Police were able to track one of them to the Ongar area and officers from our Roads Policing Unit stopped it at around 3.45am.
A 17 year-old boy from High Wycombe was arrested and the car stolen from Rowan Road was recovered.
The teenager has now been charged with two counts of burglary, possession of a knife or bladed article, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and driving without insurance.
He is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 7 October).
Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson said: “Tackling burglaries is a force priority and we have an expectation of attending every burglary at a home.
“In this instance we responded swiftly to a report of a break-in and quickly make an arrest and recover a vehicle."
“Our detectives from CID are in contact with the victims and are liaising with other police forces to locate another vehicle and further suspects.”
"We are continuing to appeal for information relating to both incidents."
