Teenager arrested after theft of Land Rover
While escaping arrest the car crashed into a building and caused a fire
Two people have been arrested after Essex Police received a report of a Land Rover Discovery having been stolen from the street outside an address on Canvey Island shortly before 12.45am this morning, Monday 27 February.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle, which failed to stop when requested but officers were able to follow at a safe distance.
Whilst continuing to fail to stop, the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a building in Pound Lane, North Benfleet.
The occupants then left the vehicle and it caught alight, spreading to the building.
Officers at the scene ensured the occupants of the building were able to get to safety. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene and dealt with the fire.
After a short search of the area, a teenage boy who had been injured was located.
He is being treated for his injuries and is under arrest on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
Another vehicle suspected of being involved, a Ford CMAX, was also identified.
The CMAX was located, and a woman was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and drug driving.
Detective Inspector Marcus Dodd said: “This was a fast-moving incident which was dealt with incredibly professionally by every officer and staff member involved and I’d really like to thank them for their work.
“The people arrested will now be dealt with appropriately. The teenage boy continues to be monitored in hospital.”
