Teenage boy assaulted during game at Southend United

Essex Police are investigating an assault which took place at the end of a Southend United game at Roots Hall during which a teenage boy sustained a black eye.

In a statement the force said:

"The victim was watching the game versus Dagenham and Redbridge from the west stand on Tuesday 15 March.

"At the end of the game, an exchange took place between the victim’s friends and a man seated behind them.

"The victim then intervened and was assaulted. The victim’s two friends were also assaulted during the incident.

"The man is described as aged between 30 and 40 but there are no further details. We are asking anyone who watched the game from the west stand who witnessed the incident immediately after the final whistle to get in touch."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of it, should submit a report online or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm.
