Suffolk Police appeal for witnesses to violence at Ipswich Town vs. Colchester United match
A group of Colchester fans threw chairs and flares during last week's League Cup fixture
Police are seeking witnesses to violence at last week's League Cup match between Ipswich Town and Colchester United at Portman Road.
The fixture, which ended 1 - 0 to the Us, was marred by a minority of Colchester United fans who brought flares and threw objects, including chairs, at other fans.
Officers in Suffolk say they're working closely with both clubs to identify those responsible for the disorder.
Suffolk Constabulary Assistant Chief Constable Rob Jones said: “Those seeking to bring disorder and commit crimes have no place within football, where fans of all ages come together to watch sport in a safe and enjoyable manner.
“We will look to take action against the small minority of individuals who are identified as committing offences or antisocial behaviour.
“We would appeal for victims and witnesses to contact us with details of what they have seen.”
Last week Colchester United owner Robbie Cowling admitted he was 'embarassed' by the behaviour of a minority of travelling Us fans, pledging to ban those who took part.
