Elderly man injured in sheltered accommodation fire

An elderly man has been injured after a fire broke out in his sheltered accommodation flat in Stanway.
Essex Fire Crews were called to the incident at 8.53pm last night (Sunday, October 26).
The rescued a man in his 70s from the building and subsequently left him in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service.
Crews from Colchester and Coggeshall quickly extinguished the fire at Grymes Dyke Court and the property was ventilated using high-powered fans.
Neighbouring residents were temporarily evacuated and have since safely returned to their homes.
An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
A spokesperson for Colchester Borough Homes said: “Our thoughts are with the resident who was injured in this evening’s fire at Grymes Dyke Court.
“We’re thankful for the swift response from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and are working closely with emergency services to support those affected and to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
