Stansted Airport sees passenger numbers almost back to normal
They're seeing nearly as many people as they did before Covid
Stansted Airport says it's seen passenger numbers return to almost normal following the pandemic.
In July 2.5 million people passed through the Essex travel hub - that's about 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
The airport tells us it's also managed to largely avoid the mass disruption seen at other airports around the UK, with 99% of people getting through security within 15 minutes.
It took the time during Covid to hire 70 new security officers and complete a £12m upgrade to its International Departure Lounge.
The airport’s owner, Manchester Airports Group (MAG) - which also owns Manchester and East Midlands Airports – saw 5.5 million passengers travel through its terminals across the month, compared to 6.5 million in July 2019.
MAG CEO Charlie Cornish said: “July was MAG’s busiest month since the pandemic began, with millions jetting-off for their long-awaited summer holidays, some for the first time in two years.
"This summer, more than 11m people will travel through our airports and, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our teams, we will ensure they get away on their travels smoothly.”
