Southend United has said it will no longer play in the upcoming season of the National League Cup.

The Shrimpers had been due to play in the 2025/26 cup, but in a statement - managers at the club confirmed that they were not taking part anymore.

The statement read: "Participation in the competition will not help us achieve our key objectives of bringing joy through football, moving towards sustainability and adding value to our community."

Roots Hall added that several factors were being considered for their decision to pull out of the league, including player fatigue and strain on the club's pitch during winter.

On top of this, the club the costs associated with putting on the games were a key reason why the club's Board of Directors believed it was financially unfeasible to compete.
