A traditional Proclamation ceremony has been held in Southend this morning to mark the accession of the new monarch King Charles III.
Southend's Mayor, along with council members and local dignitaries assembled in Victoria Square, at the top of Southend High Street to hear the Mayor of Southend, Cllr Kevin Robinson, read the Proclamation this morning.
During the proclamation of Charles, the Mayor gave a speech before declaring "God save the King", which the crowd repeated.
The national anthem was then sung but, and followed by Mayor Robinson leading three cheers, saying "hip hip" to replies of "hooray" from the public.
