Southend man appears in court charged after woman dies in Royal Artillery Way crash

A woman in her 30s died in hospital after a crash on Royal Artillery Way in Southend late on Tuesday night

A man has been charged following a crash in Southend in which a woman later died in hospital.

Police were called to Royal Artillery Way shortly before 11.30pm on Tuesday 20 May after a single-vehicle collision. A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition. She has since died. Her family have been informed and are being supported.

A 43-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the incident.

Lee Rance, of Frobisher Way in Shoeburyness, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, possession of a Class A drug, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 22 May.

A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this extremely difficult time. We are continuing to support them.”
