A drug dealer has been jailed for five and a half years after failing to outrun officers in Southend.

28 year-old Claudio Tunio from East London tried to evade police in the city last month after he was spotted acting suspiciously.

He was chased and arrested on College Way. Police later found 35 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin in a nearby bush.

After a search of Tunio’s address officers seized a further 142 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, along with weighing scales, cannabis and cash.

He was charged and convicted of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of cannabis at Basildon Crown Court.

Investigating officer PC Scott James, of Essex Police, said:

“Drugs and drug dealers cause a great deal of harm, not only to those who use them, but in local communities too.

“They are both associated with violence and misery but, thankfully, this is one more dealer we have taken off the streets of Southend for a long time.”
