Hoax calls to schools in Colchester and Clacton lead to second arrest

A 12-year-old boy has been arrested following threatening hoax calls that caused disruption at three schools

Police have made a second arrest after investigating threatening hoax calls made to schools in Colchester and Tendring, which disrupted pupils and staff on 20 May 2025.

Officers are continuing their inquiries following reports that three schools received the calls on the afternoon of Tuesday 20 May. Although there was no real threat, the calls caused significant disruption.

Police attended each school and began an investigation.

On Wednesday 21 May, a 12-year-old boy from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of sending a false communication with intent to cause harm.

He remains in custody for questioning.

A 15-year-old boy from Colchester was arrested the previous day, questioned, and released on bail with conditions while inquiries continue.
