An investigation into the cause of a blaze at a two-storey industrial building in Saffron Walden is expected to begin today.

Two crews from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) stayed at the scene of the fire on Shire Hill overnight, with Station Manager Scott Fretton saying the "fire is under control" around 10pm last night.

The crews remained at the fire to dampen down any hotspots.

Last night, residents nearby were still asked to keep their windows and doors closed, with some smoke still in the area.

Shire Hill remained closed yesterday evening, with other surrounding roads reopened following the fire.

In an update issued last night, Station Manager Scott Fretton said: "The fire is under control but crews will be here through the night to extinguish hotspots.

"Although there is not much smoke, we would advise residents living nearby to keep their doors and windows closed.

"I'd like to praise our crews and everyone else involved in dealing with the incident for their hard work and professionalism."
