Virtual round-the-world dog walk for Essex RSPCA centre
Danaher Animal Home is starting a 'Round the World in 80 Days' Challenge
Last updated 1st Apr 2021
A virtual dog walk starts today, to walk around the world in 80 days for an Essex RSPCA centre.
The Danaher Animal Home are trying to clock-up 45,000 kilometres before the 19th of June.
Danaher Animal Home, in Wethersfield, hosts a sponsored dog walk every year but has had to adapt its plans in 2021 due to Coronavirus.
Danaher's home facilities manager Karen Joyner said:
"Every year we organise a sponsored dog walk to raise vital funds for our centre and the animals we take care of.
"This year is no different although we've had to adapt to adhere to the lockdown rules that are still in place; so we're asking people to participate from home!"
The team is aiming to rack up 45,000km between 1 April and 19 June; the circumference of the globe!
Craig added:
"We're hoping to get lots of willing fundraisers on board to help us walk around the world in 80 days!
"It's no mean feat but we're sure we can do it and raise at least £1,000 in the process."
To support the team's fundraising efforts you can donate to their 'Around the World in 80 Days' fundraiser online or find out more from Facebook event.
Danaher is asking participants to record the distance they walk when they're out with their dogs or enjoying a family hike so the local community can work together to pool their distances and hit the 45,000km - or 25,960 miles - total.
To register to take part email reception@danaheranimalhome.org.uk with the subject heading 'Around the World' and pay a £5 participation fee for your starter pack.
RSPCA Danaher Animal Home is a self-funded, independently-registered charity that rescues and rehomes around 500 animals every year.
