Roger Hirst re-elected as Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner
The conservative candidate secures his third successive term with pledges for enhanced local policing efforts
Roger Hirst, has secured his position as Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, clinching a third consecutive term, by 9,572 votes.
Hirst who represents the conservatives, campaigned on pledges to bolstered local policing efforts aimed at reducing crime and anti-social behavior, alongside initiatives targeting knife crime, youth protection, and road safety.
Expressing gratitude for the community's support, Hirst highlighted accomplishments over the past eight years
“I’m grateful to the people of Essex for their endorsement of what we have been working very hard to achieve over the past eight years. We have successfully grown Essex Police, recruiting over 905 extra officers, making Essex Police the largest and strongest it has ever been and we will work to maintain this high level of officers. Crime and anti-social behaviour is falling in Essex and we will work to get crime down again.
“We are improving the culture of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service with a focus on prevention and protection, which is saving lives.”
Voting happened on Thursday, with results unveiled at Colchester’s Charter Hall today (Friday May 3rd) by Police Area Returning Officer Pam Donnelly.
The final tally saw Hirst re-elected, with 126,447 votes.
Adam Daniel Fox representing the Labour and Co-operative Party received 116,875 votes.
Kieron Anthony Franks for the Liberal Democrats with 52,922 votes, and Robin Charles William Tilbrook for the English Democrats securing 44,909 votes.
The overall voter turnout stood at 24.52%, with a total of 340,248 votes cast across Essex.
