Months of road works and overnight closures starting on A12 in Essex

It is for repairs to the existing north and south bound road surface

Five months of road works and overnight closures are starting today (19 July) on the A12 in Essex.

It is between junction 15 at the Webb Farm Interchange and junction 19 at the Boreham Interchange.

Repairs to the existing north and south bound road surface will be carried out, with Highways England stating it is "essential that we complete repairs to the potholes and cracking to ensure a smoother and safer ride on the A12".

The work will also include repainting white lining and replacing road studs (cat’s eyes.)

Highways England said they will be using "innovative techniques and new technology to provide a modern road that will last for decades to come, and which is easier and quicker for us to repair in future".

Road closures

Southbound:

From today until November: Monday to Thursday from 9pm until 5am. Friday to Saturday from 9pm until 6am.

Northbound:

From November until December: Monday to Thursday from 9pm until 5am. Friday to Saturday from 9.30pm until 6am.

Depending on weather, additional road closures may be required, according to Highways England.

Diversion routes

Southbound diversion route:

Drivers heading south should leave the A12 at junction 19 Boreham Interchange and join the A130.

Follow the A130 and then join the A1016.

Follow the A1016 and then join the A414.

Follow the A414 to re-join the A12 at junction 15.

Northbound diversion route:

Drivers heading north should leave the A12 at junction 15 and join the A414.

Follow the A414 and then join the A1016 (Westway).

Follow the A1016 and then join the A130 to re-join the A12 at J19 Boreham Interchange.

Signed diversion routes will be in place both southbound and northbound.

There is more resurfacing and other maintenance work scheduled for during 2022 on other stretches of the road.
