Road closure put in place after man with knife in Rochford
Officers arrived and found a man who was making threats from inside a property.
Essex Police is at the scene of an incident which was reported in Rochford this morning, (Saturday).
They were called to concerns for the welfare of a man in East Street, shortly after 8.30am.
Officers arrived and found a man who was making threats from inside a property. At that stage, he was carrying a knife.
A road closure was immediately put in place and specialist officers then began engaging with the man.
Shortly before 9.50am, officers were able disarm the man to ensure he was no threat to himself or others.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray.
Acting Chief Inspector Paul Hogben said: “We know this incident took place very publicly and members of the public will naturally have been alarmed to see the necessary police response to the incident.
“At all times, the safety of the man in question and members of the public, was paramount.
“I’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding this morning whilst this incident was being dealt with.
“Residents will see additional officers in the area throughout the day. These officers will be there to reassure you so please speak to them if you have any concerns – they are there to help.”
