Ride London: Sunday's road closures in Essex
Over 100 miles of road are closed
Up to 25,000 cyclists are taking part in a 100 mile ride around London and Essex today.
It's being run by Ride London, which was established by the Mayor of London in 2013 to encourage people to get out on bikes and be active.
The route for the RideLondon-Essex 100 will set off from Victoria Embankment in central London and into Essex via Epping Forest.
Once in Essex, riders will cycle past some of the county’s picturesque towns and villages, such as Ongar, Fyfield, the Rodings and Great Dunmow.
They'll then join a section of the 2014 Stage Three Tour de France route through Felsted and Chelmsford before heading through Writtle, towards Ongar and central London.
The finish line is at Tower Bridge.
As a result, more than 100 miles of road closures will be in place on Sunday 29 May for the mass participation rides, significantly impacting Chelmsford, Epping Forest and Uttlesford.
Here's everything you need to know about road closures:
Open as usual:
The M11, M25, A13, A406 and A120 will all operate as usual.
These roads in Essex create a ‘ring’ around the event and you can use them to get around the area – this may be particularly useful if you usually use the A414.
A414
The A414 will be closed between junction seven of the M11 to the A414 London Road in Chelmsford from 05:00 to 17:00.
A1060
The A1060 will be closed in both directions at Leaden Roding and between Writtle and Chelmsford from 07:00.
The A1060 will reopen at Leaden Roding only, in a westbound direction, at 13:30 for access towards Hatfield Heath and the M11.
It will fully reopen at 15:30.
B1008 – Essex Regiment Way
B1008 – Essex Regiment Way will be closed between the A131 and Ford End d from 07:30 to 14:45.
Getting to London
There will be significant closures in central and east London, including the A12, which will be closed between the A406 and the A11.
