Rayleigh New Years Eve assault leaves man in life-threatening condition

Police are appealing for witnesses and information

A man is in hospital in a life-threatening condition after an assault in Rayleigh on New Years Eve (December 31).

Essex Police were called to High Street at around 1:40am, near to a taxi rank where a young man was assaulted during a disturbance.

During this time, he briefly lost consciousness, and was taken to hospital, where he is in a life-threatening condition receiving treatment for a serious head injury.

No one has been arrested and police are continuing their enquiries.

Acting Chief Inspector Danny Barnes said:

“At this stage, our enquiries lead us to be believe this was an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.

“At this stage, our priority is to gain the accounts of people who witnessed the incident or have any footage of it so I would urge anyone with information to please come forward.”
