The southbound QEII Bridge at the Dartford Crossing is closed following a collision between a lorry and a car just before the bridge.

The crash happened at about 11.05am on Thursday 3 July.

Essex Police said the road will remain closed for several hours due to damage to the road surface and barriers.

Emergency services including police, fire, and ambulance crews remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We have closed the Dartford River Crossing following a collision just before the bridge between a car and lorry at about 11.05am on Thursday 3 July. The road will remain closed for several hours due to damage to the road surface and barriers.

“It is important drivers affected by this incident continue to drive safely and we ask drivers for their patience while we make sure the road is safe.”

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance service confirmed their attendance at the scene.

They said: "We sent an ambulance and an ambulance officer vehicle.

"A woman was transported to Basildon University Hospital with a minor injury."

Drivers are being urged to check travel information and plan their journeys.

All southbound or clockwise traffic on the M25 and A282 is being diverted through the east bore tunnel. Northbound traffic is restricted to the west bore tunnel only, which has a height limit of 4.8 metres (15 feet 9 inches). Vehicles over this height must use alternative routes.

National Highways said: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
