RSPCA appeal after eight-foot long python found dead in Leigh-on-Sea
The animal was discovered on marshland by a member of the public on Sunday
The RSPCA has launched an investigation after an eight foot long reticulated python was found dead in Leigh-on-Sea.
The animal was discovered on marshland by a member of the public on Sunday (December 18) with a pink plastic bag taped around it.
The animal wasn't microchipped.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Enola Evans said: “The circumstances in which this snake was found are suspicious and it’s concerning that its death may have been the result of cruelty.
“The snake is a reticulated python around seven to eight foot long and of yellow colouring - as part of the snake had been predated it is hard to see what the cause of death could have been but I am treating the matter as suspicious.
"There was predation on the head but no visible injuries further down the body.
“I am investigating this incident and I would like to hear from anyone that may have information in relation to this incident or may have seen anything suspicious in the area.
“I would urge anyone with information which can help my investigation to call me in confidence on 0300 123 8018.
“Sadly, we’re starting to see the results of rising costs on pet owners. More animals are coming into our care, more animals are being abandoned, and fewer animals are being rehomed.
“This is why we have launched our Christmas appeal to help raise funds so we can keep helping animals - and we are urging the public to support us.”
