A puppy has been put down after it was attacked by another dog.

It happened near the Premier shop in Garland Road, Parkeston, at about 8.15pm on Thursday (25 February), when a dark coloured Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog attacked the puppy, a Chihuahua and Pomeranian crossbreed.

A 22 year-old woman, who was holding the puppy on a lead, was pulled to the ground and suffered grazes and a sore back and ribs.

Two men were with the attacking dog.

They left the scene with it after the dogs had been pulled apart.

The puppy was put down as a result of its extensive injuries.

Essex Police has said the owner of the attacking dog has been described as a 6ft tall slim, black man with dreadlocks past his shoulders and a small beard.

Witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting reference 42/38741/21.
