Essex Clinical Psychologist opens home for young people to access support
Dr Sona Kaur believes more facilities like this can help ease pressure on other services
A new house in Essex has opened specifically to help children in the county, and across the country, who cannot access foster care or other safe places within the community due to their needs.
The two-bedroom home in Romford will be run by Essex-based NHS clinical psychologist Dr Sona Kaur, alongside a team of specially selected and trained staff to provide 24 hour support.
Included in that team is a teacher trained in children with diverse needs.
Its as there's growing pressure and a lack of services and funding to help treat and care for children who have been through trauma.
Dr Kaur hopes more facilities such as hers can be opened across the country to help relieve the pressure on services such as the NHS.
The house is something Dr Kaur would like to expand on in future, and aims to provide care, safety and support for the marginalised children who are not getting the care they need and deserve.
Dr Sona Kaur specialises in helping people with epilepsy, complex PTSD and neurodiversity. She has been treating children with diverse needs for many years both for the NHS and privately and she herself is neurodiverse with a diagnosis of ADHD so has a background in this area.
Yesterday (August 3) the children's home opened, with the Mayor of Romford, Councillor Stephanie Nunn helping Dr Kaur with the launch, as the house is backed and supported by the local authority.
It's the first of many homes Dr Kaur hopes can be opened.
