Poundland has announced it will shut a number of it's stores temporarily from Saturday 9th January across the UK despite being classed as an essential retailer.

The discount chain says it has been impacted by an 80% drop in footfall across some shopping centres and high streets due to Covid-19 restrictions.

It's got over 800 stores across the country, so the majority will remain open, but its shop in Culver Street, Colchester, will be among those that temporarily cease trading.
